Living in Cleveland, Ohio, in an all-Jewish neighborhood, Cynthia Schneider, the wife of Rabbi Kirt Schneider, often felt alienated while growing up. Whenever there was a Jewish holiday, she would stand alone at the bus stop for school. Jewish girls in the neighborhood never included her in their parties and activities. The only neighbor to ever reach out to her was the boy living two doors down the street. This boy named Kirt was quite friendly. He came from a secular, but culturally Jewish family and their house always seemed abuzz with their Jewish friends.
