As the date and time was set for an interview, the text from Yuriy Bereza from Kyiv was received, “Shalom! If there are no serious attacks, we can talk!” Scheduling an interview with someone in a different country, especially one that is in the middle of a war in the Ukraine, has its challenges. Compounding the problem was a need for a translator to be included in the call. “No serious attack!” Those words came so simply and were so forthright, that they were almost a casual comment. Yet, the significance of life and ministry in the Ukraine at this moment in history is anything but casual. There is intent and purpose in one’s actions and words living under the realities of war. Planning how to survive is practiced with great detail. Such is the manner of operation for those in spiritual leadership such as Yuriy, especially in the middle of a war.
